Is there any good economic news to be thankful for at Thanksgiving this year?

By Dr. Lynn Reaser

Yes. While unemployment is higher than we would like, 139 million Americans today have jobs.  The U.S. avoided a collapse of the global financial system and a depression.  Low inflation means that earnings are rising faster than prices.  Stocks have rebounded about 60% from their lows of early 2009.  Companies have repaired their balance sheets and restored profitability, paving the way for job growth when confidence returns.  Americans continue to give generously to those in need both at home and abroad.  The United States remains a country of unparalleled opportunity, innovation, entrepreneurship, and great resilience.

May you and your families have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
