PLNU Announces Creation of Regional Business and Economic Institute

Letter from the Dean of the Fermanian School of Business

Dear Friends,

I am pleased to announce to our business students that the Fermanian Business Center (FBC) is extending its services and networking role as it now becomes the Fermanian Business and Economic Institute (FBEI). The broad services to students, alumni, university, and the business community that have been a primary role of the FBC will continue as they have in recent years through the new FBEI. Additionally, the economic center of the Institute will add a distinct set of economic studies and services to businesses and non-profit organizations throughout the region and create additional opportunities for us.

The staffing for the Fermanian Business and Economic Institute will include Executive Director, Prof. Randy Ataide; Chief Economist, Dr. Lynn Reaser; Director, Cathy Gallagher; Manager, Courtney Hamad and Dieter Mauerman as Research Assistant. The student employees will also continue to work at the FBEI to assist our student needs. Professor Ataide will also continue his work in the classroom and with co-curricular entrepreneur programs.

With this initiative, the FBEI is pleased to welcome Dr. Lynn Reaser to the role of PLNU’s Chief Economist. Dr. Reaser is currently the President of the National Association for Business Economics (www.nabe.com) , a leading international association of economists, and was most recently Bank of America’s chief economist for its Investment Strategies Group in Boston. Dr. Reaser has given dozens of interviews since she came to PLNU in the fall of 2009, including The Wall Street Journal, CNN, NPR, Reuters, Bloomberg and many others which has brought an unprecedented level of exposure and prominence to PLNU and the School of Business. Dr. Reaser maintains the “Economist’s Corner” blog which you can follow at http://fermanianbusinesscenter.wordpress.com/

The FBEI is developing and advancing many new strategic partnerships for PLNU and the Fermanian School of Business including the San Diego Zoo, San Diego Military Advisory Council, San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation, San Diego World Trade Center, San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce among others. These efforts are designed to expand our networking, internship and employment opportunities for our students, alums and stakeholders and with companies and sectors that we have not previously been able to access.

Look for more to come on the Fermanian Business and Economic Institute by following them on Twitter at http://twitter.com/PLNU_FBEI

Please congratulate the entire staff of the FBEI and also welcome Dr. Reaser to the PLNU community.

in His service and yours
