PLNU Graduate Closes Major Deal on Behalf of SPG Solar

Troy Hinds, a 2007 PLNU Business Administration graduate, led efforts to close a huge project for SPG Solar with the Irvine Unified School District (IUSD). After seeing the power system at PLNU, IUSD visited the campus and met with SPG at the Solar Power International conference in San Diego in September 2008. Through a six month interview process reviewing various companies including REC Solar, Borrego Solar, Chevron, Sunpower Corp, Solar Monkey, Solar Power Partners, Sun-Trek, SPG Solar was selected.

SPG Solar worked with IUSD for the next 8 months, developing the plan for the District-wide deployment of solar energy and their Board of Directors approved the plan on December 8, 2009. Hinds literally spent hundreds of hours performing analysis, meetings, site visits, and spreadsheets to put together the project for them. SPG Solar teamed up with SunEdison to finance the project.
